Chairs
An AXA Chair is an AXA professorship where the chair holder may combine teaching activities with research work.
Institutions may apply for one of the following funding schemes:
Endowed Chairs: the institution is expected to invest the capital and fund the chair using the interest
- Distinguished Permanent Chair (up to 4m€)
- Distinguished Visiting Chair (up to 3m€)
- Junior Visiting Chair (up to 2m€)Non-endowed Fixed-term Chair (up to 100k€/y): the institution can use the capital and interest to fund the program (3 to 5 years)
2012 chairs campaign
Closing: February 23th at 11.59PM (French time)
An institution is allowed to submit only one application in 2012 either for an endowed or a fixed-term chair.
Process:
1. Request for an application form: The operational contact requests an application form from the AXA Research Fund by email at chairs@axa.com
2. Application: The operational contact is responsible for ensuring that the duly completed application is submitted by the stated deadline to chairs@axa.com

- Review by international referees
- Final selection by the Scientific Board of the AXA Research Fund

- The applying
institution’s reputation for academic excellence and its relationship to the
international community
- The academic excellence and
innovative nature of the chair project
- The consistency between the chair
project and the long-term development policy of the institution
- The research track record of the
chair holder
- The operational strength and
quality of the organization set up to support this chair project
- The quality of the research
environment and working conditions offered to researchers through the chair
- The chair’s contribution to
strengthening international networks
5. Communication of results: The Fund informs the institution’s legal representative and operational contact
