Sciences, Research and Society Forum at the Collège de France
June 28, 2012
The AXA Research Fund invites you to the Sciences, Research and Society Forum, organized by the newspapers LeMonde and LaRecherche, which will take place at the College de France on June 28. During the afternoon plenary session, Godefroy Beauvallet, head of the AXA Research Fund, will comment the results of the exclusive opinion poll by Ipsos about the relationships between science and democracy, science and the daily life of French people and how they perceive research in their country.
Godefroy Beauvallet will enlighten the raise of the private funding of research, and why it is necessary to clarify its methods: what is a chair funded by a corporation, and what for? How to guarantee the freedom of the supported researcher while ensuring a fruitful discussion with the experts? Why is it strategic for an insurer like AXA to fund research on a philanthropic basis?
To discuss this points with him: Rony Brauman (scientific director of the Médécins sans frontiers foundation), Alain Carpentier (head of the French Académie des sciences), Jean-Louis Etienne (explorer), Jean-Paul Moatti (head of the Institut santé publique Aviesan) and Brice Teinturier (deputy head of Ipsos).
You’re also welcomed to the other conferences of the day on energy, steam cell, autism, brain, breast cancer and open data.
