Miia Kivipelto’s research focuses on prevention and treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She developed the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to prevent cognitive impairment.
Her two-years program is based on cognitive training, physical activity and nutritional intervention. It also includes monitoring of lifestyle risk risk factors for later dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Participants will be assessed after 7 years to measure the program’s long-term effects.
The ground-breaking findings will be directly translated for usage by clinicians, the general public and policy makers.
