84 % of Nigerian women have no bank accounts. Recognising that access to finance is a crucial issue when it comes to empowering women, Dr. Vivian Ugwuja, of the University of Port Harcourt, in Nigeria, is exploring the potential of online banking services as tools for the financial inclusion of female farmers in Southern Nigeria. Specifically, her project investigates the specific risks that arise from the use of Internet financial services for this segment of the population, faced by both banks and their customer clients. The overall objective is to inform the design of tailored online banking policies.
