The proposed study provides an insight into the ways in which globally operating business enterprises can deal with the increased risk of being held legally accountable for harm allegedly caused to people and the planet as a result of their worldwide activities. It provides a comparison of strategies for liability risk reduction that have been adopted in light of this risk by multinationals based in the US, the UK and the Netherlands, and analyses the (potential) impact of a diverse range of regulatory mechanisms in this respect. The main objective is to gain a better insight into the costs and benefits of this development from the perspective of the corporate actors involved. This will enable higher quality decision making by policymakers seeking to implement regulatory measures that affect this development.
