In partnership with Sky, AXA UK has developed a documentary to pay attention to the human impact on the oceans. A focus on Dr Cosima Porteus, an AXA Research Fund post-doctoral fellow at the University of Exeter (UK), allow us to understand how increasing levels of carbon dioxide is making sea water more acidic, affecting fishes’ sense of smell. Fish using smell to find food, find a mate and avoid predators, any impact on their sense of smell could directly impact fish stocks and may even wipe out entire species, eventually diminishing global food supplies. The plastic pollution crisis is another stressor on the ocean environment discussed in the documentary. It also reveals ways we can all play our part in helping to protect the oceans for future generations.
Watch the web-documentary to find out more about what is happening in our oceans and possible actions to mitigate it.
